Using Social Media to Turn Negatives into Positives

By Rachel Levitt | 05/26/2009 - 3:40pm

By now, just about everyone in the working world has at least heard of social media, if not integrated it into their company's branding and marketing strategies. People are quick to point out the advantages of using social media; how it's free and far-reaching, how it's a democratic form of communication, and how it allows corporations to truly connect with employees and clients.  But the hype for using social media is so deafening, users often forget that it's a double-edged sword. As much as one hopes to see nothing but good things about the company's product or service, it's equally possible (and all too probably) to see the gripes and negative comments put forth by users and observers. So why bother?

Well, for one, clients are in on the conversation, whether your company is or not. So your choice is: You can hide your head in the sand, or you can address that negativity head-on. Take control of the conversation! In an instant, you can respond to a critique and nip any further damage in the bud.

At CATS Software, we realize the risk of putting our product and company "out there" for all to see, but we're confident not only in our product but in our development team to answer questions and resolve issues. It's one thing to earn a rave review right off the bat. It's quite another to address a client's concerns quickly, compassionately, and thoroughly. That quality, at least for me, separates a "good" company from a "great" one.
