It seems that many software companies are facing a reality that we at CATS Applicant Tracking had recognized a long time ago: People don’t want expensive software. Up until this year, however, it was much easier for pricey programs to get ahead. But budgets are getting pared down like never before, and many are demanding a better deal from their software vendors.
Where they could in years past be complacent about the desires of their customers, "many vendors are mending their ways as alternative software models, such as SaaS [Software-as-a-Service], start to gain stronger market share and becomes a threat to traditional, inflexible software pricing models," according to PC World. Is this the beginning of a new, more responsible way of managing and distributing software? I hope so.
